Blue Bolt has proved unstoppable this year, and it will be a surprise if that momentum is not maintained in the G1 Sun Chariot Stakes (1600m) – for fillies and mares – over Newmarket’s straight Rowley Mile course on Saturday (3 October) in Great Britain.

The Andrew Balding-trained, Colin Keane-ridden filly couldn’t reach a front-running Fallen Angel on this day last year, but Blue Bolt has since delivered a continuous flow of captivating performances with five straight wins all at around a mile and the last three at Group 1 level.

September’s G1 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Leopardstown had been a long-standing objective for Blue Bolt and, though she had to work from the widest gate, once she started accelerating in the straight the writing was on the wall for her eight rivals. Fallen Angel was third but is swerving another encounter with Blue Bolt, instead heading to Saturday’s (3 October) G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein (1600m) at ParisLongchamp.

Balding has been in such scintillating form this season that he may well become 2026 champion trainer, with Blue Bolt being one of the stable stars.

Of the four-year-old daughter of Blue Point, Balding said: “She has great physical strength – that is her biggest quality. She has also got a great desire plus she’s effective on any ground.”

Billy Lee’s mount City Of Memphis could prove the main threat again. She had a setback as a two-year-old but this season has given the distinct impression that she was an upwardly mobile filly when winning three straight prizes, latterly May’s G2 Lanwades Stud Stakes (1600m) at the Curragh.

She was then absent for 111-days before being defeated by Blue Bolt in the Matron Stakes and her Irish-based trainer Paddy Twomey has predicted that she will be sharper for what already looked a career-best performance.

Three other World Pool races from Newmarket include a valuable 1400m race for two-year-olds and features Night In Vegas. Charles Bishop’s mount has captured two of these valuable events on his last two starts, already earning many times his purchase price.

The four-time winner steps up to 1400m for the first time but trainer Eve Johnson Houghton expects that he will be okay for stamina, adding bullishly: “I think Night In Vegas is a Group horse in the making.”

A serious rival to him could come from Zigazig Ah, already proven over this trip when only just failing to win at Goodwood last month. Back in July her speed had seen her pounce late to eclipse 23 rivals at Newbury. She will be ridden, as she was then, by the Hong Kong-bound Saffie Osborne.

2yo Allowance (1400m) is carded as S2-2 and will be run at 8.00pm (Hong Kong time) on Saturday, 3 October. The G1 Sun Chariot Stakes (1600m) is carded as S2-3 and will be run at 8.35pm.
